Who Applies
The common denominator of our applicants is that they believe that their teaching has the power to make a difference for learners who live in urban settings.
Beyond that, we intend our program to attract applicants that mirror many aspects of the diversity of our society. Each year, we count among our applicants men and women of diverse heritage; people who are in – or just completing -- college and those who are entering a second or third career; people who are native to the Philadelphia region and people from across the country and outside the U.S.; people who are parents already as well as people who are just few years older than those they will be teaching; people who want to teach in innovative charter or independent schools around the globe, and people wanting to sustain options in local public schooling. The multiple perspectives in the members of our learning community--all of whom band together to learn to teach in one setting, Philadelphia—help us to implement the Penn compact: Think globally, act locally.
