Admissions

Admission to the M.S.Ed. degree program in either elementary or secondary education requires submission of the following:

After a review of the completed admission application, a brief interview is scheduled (either in person or by phone). The purpose of the interview is to explain our program goals and values and gain an understanding of the extent to which these are shared by the applicant. Questions or concerns can be answered, ensuring a good fit between the applicant’s goals and objectives and those of the program.

Admission to the program offered in collaboration with Teach for America takes place after the applicant has been accepted to Teach for American and been assigned to teach in Philadelphia. Here is further information about applying to our program with TFA:

Admission to the undergraduate urban education minor usually takes place in the spring term of the freshman year and requires that Penn undergraduates declare a minor through the student’s home school. This is simply done by consulting with the advisor. Here is the home page with further information:

Undergraduates not choosing to declare the urban education minor may still take advantage of the opportunity to submatriculate into the M.S.Ed. degree programs in elementary or secondary education. This option is available to undergraduates at Penn, Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges, through the Quaker Consortium plan. Undergraduates who are admitted into the submatriculation program may take up to two courses that will count toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees.
