We put our mission and core commitments into practice by:
Taking an inquiry stance:
Throughout our program, teaching begins from questions that lead to reflective practice, constant change and growth. We encourage prospective teachers to view their classrooms as a site of ongoing learning.
Exploring and entering into urban contexts:
Each aspect of our program, including the close relationship between courses and field experiences, demonstrates our commitment to the preparation of teachers for urban contexts and provides prospective teachers with the opportunities to learn about teaching in urban settings.
Practicing social justice and equity:
Throughout our program, we introduce frameworks to help teachers learn to teach all students, challenge structures of inequality and promote a just world.
Joining and developing a community of practice:
We invite prospective teachers to develop and join with one another through reflection, discourse and practice.
Becoming leaders:
Prospective teachers learn to articulate their beliefs and take on leadership and advocacy roles within their classrooms.
Integrating knowledge from research, theory and practice:
The various experiences, including courses and fieldwork, tightly weave together research, theory and practice as sites of teaching and learning.
