When you join our teacher education program, you join a community of practice, with students, alumni, faculty, teaching mentors and teachers, that is committed to emphasizing the following values in our goals for our students as well as in our teaching practice.
Inquiry:
We engage in the recursive and habitual examination of what shapes our choices for our students as well as for our practice.
Knowledge:
We are committed to expanding our funds of knowledge, whether that be in content areas, deep knowledge of our students and their communities, or knowledge of institutions that shape and constrain our possibilities and goals.
Social Justice:
We are committed to revealing, interpreting and challenging existing structures that foster inequity.
Differentiation of instruction:
Our commitment to equity leads us to value designing multiple, engaging learning experiences that respect and address learning differences including: ways of processing, learning styles, needs for reinforcement or enrichment, preferences for documenting learning, as well as cultural or linguistic differences.
Leadership:
We consider all students in our program to be prospective teacher-leaders, and we actively build confidence and competence in making a long-term difference by cultivating student involvement in making presentations and proposing substantive ideas.
Technology:
We believe in furthering access to depth and breadth of understanding, skill, reasoning, and dispositions that are afforded by unique technologies.
