The mission of Penn GSE teacher educators is to prepare reflective, collaborative, visionary teacher-leaders. Our urban focus grows out of our responsibility to the communities in which we live. Building on children and adolescents’ strengths, curiosities and interests, we invite prospective teachers to take an inquiry stance toward teaching and learning. Prospective teachers learn to negotiate the realities of urban contexts, bringing their content expertise and pedagogical knowledge to benefit their students. Our teacher education students leave inspired to use the power of teaching to deepen student learning, transform schools, and increase educational equity.
