Center for Collaborative Research and Practice in Teacher Education
The mission of the Center for Collaborative Research and Practice in Teacher Education (the Teacher Education Center) is to bring together new and veteran teachers, teacher educators, researchers, policy makers, and activists to reinvigorate policy and practice for teacher education locally, nationally and globally.
A primary objective of the Teacher Education Center is to advance a collaborative agenda in research on teacher education that draws together faculty, graduate students, local and national educators.
The Center for Collaborative Research and Practice in Teacher Education will contribute new knowledge and new models for knowledge production about the preparation of teachers and the professionalization of teaching.
The Teacher Education Center was created to respond to current and emergent debates about the preparation of teachers, particularly for under-served communities. A goal of the Teacher Education Center is to bring together people and resources to address central challenges in the preparation and support of teachers, with a focus on classrooms and issues in urban schools. The Teacher Education Center actively supports collaborative research and practice that contributes to the preparation and on-going professional development of teachers, and draws on multiple perspectives and roles, beginning with teacher knowledge.
The Teacher Education Center's kick-off event was a conference in May 2008 on “K-12 International Education: A Forum for Teachers and Teacher Educators.”
A follow-up event on internationalizing teacher education will take place in May 2009.
